Boris’ Cow

September 12, 2010

I have a candidate for the Most Memorable Character column in the Readers’ Digest. I am talking about Boris, a Russian cab driver from my local company.

He is one of the funniest and most charming drivers I have ever had.

A couple of years ago he asked us if we could recommend a girlfriend for his son who was having trouble meeting nice young women.

Every time he has driven us since then, we ask about his son.

This past summer Boris picked us up at the airport and when asked he said that yes, his son had found a steady  girlfriend.

Now 28 his son was seriously dating a blonde Polish girl.

He volunteered that at first her parents were not crazy about the idea of her getting serious with a Jew but they were growing to accept him.

Boris went on to tell us about how he came to get married 30 years ago.

He said in a dialect that is a joy to the ear: one morning I wake up and say to myself–Boris you need a son! He was not married at that time but still wanted a son.

So he proceeded to go through his little black book, eliminating most of the entries because they were too fat, too ugly etc.— he finally settled on one lady who still looked pretty good.

So he called her up and said: How about I take you to movie…then we get married.

She said: Boris, I like you and we go to a movie…but I can’t marry you cause I don’t know you!

So they went to the movie and after it was over he said to her: I handsome man…I give you four days…then I call and ask you again.

So he did and after some initial hesitation, she said: OK I marry you.

Two years later their son was born.

My Russian cab driver prompted me to think of another Boris.

There is an old Russian legend that seemed apropos for Soviet Russia.

There were two men…Boris and Ivan.  The only difference between them was that Boris had a cow and Ivan did not.

One day while walking in the country, a genie appeared to Ivan and offered him just one wish.

Ivan said, I want Boris’ cow to die.

Ivan's death wish

Ivan’s class envy was so intense that, rather than enhance his own situation with anything the genie could give him, he drew more pleasure from having him take away his rival’s cow.

It was unfair that Boris had a cow and he didn’t.

For three generations the left has been conditioning the American people to think of fairness and equality as the hallmark civic virtues, more important than patriotism and religious faith.

Since FDR, all we have heard is that the rich and how bad these fat cats were for being wealthy.

As a result they have convinced millions of American voters it would be preferable to be equal in slavery than unequal in freedom.

This is a sick attitude that has been poisoning the minds and hearts of millions of Americans who have bought their perverse message.

The left’s idea of human equality is far different from that of the founding generation who believed that all men were made equal in the image and likeness of God.

They never meant to imply that they were equal in height, skills, intelligence and drive.

They believe that human equality has nothing to do with God and everything to do with government.

They use it effectively as a political slogan the ruling has skillfully wrapped its big government agenda in the rhetoric of the Declaration of Independence just as Lincoln had done during the Civil War.

In practice the left subscribes to the Orwellian notion all are equal but some are more equal.

An  illustration involved ABC’s Charlie Gibson’s pointed question to Senator Obama during one of the primary debates with Hilary Clinton in 2008.

All about fairness

Gibson explained to Obama that the empirical data showed that when tax rates are low more money flows into the government coffers.

Obama did not challenge Gibson’s facts but merely said that to him it was more an issue of fairness.

Like the legendary Ivan, according to our  president, there is something basically unfair about someone having something more than someone else.

In Obama’s mind he should be the arbiter of America’s wealth and poverty.

It is not above his pay grade to take it away from those that have more…like Boris and his late cow.

So even if his tax increases on those who have more wind up increasing the deficit because he has made no effort to rein in his lavish spending on union payoffs and bailouts, as long as the rich are suffering then it is OK.

Does this false logic makes sense to anyone?  Is President Obama living in the real world?

Does that not validate my early post about liberals being mentally ill because they cannot live in a real world of facts and truth?

Many people would like to give the president the benefit of the doubt…that he is just inexperienced and we should be granted more time so he can learn how to change things.

Yeah and Nero just needed some more music lessons and Boris didn’t need his cow!

Needed music lessons

Now for the worst president in United States history.

As I said earlier, making value judgments depends on the beliefs of the judge.

My judgment is based on the belief that a president should try to direct his policies in conjunction with the limitations of the U. S. Constitution while affording equal respect to all citizens as best as that is humanly and reasonably possible.

I want him to strive to inspire, maintain and improve upon all Americans’ love and respect for their country.

I don’t want a super-patriot, what the French call a chauvinist, such as naval officer Stephen Decatur, who gave us those immortal words My country right or wrong–but always my country.

I want a president who will love his country and its people so much that he follow a mature religiously-based moral conscience in doing the right thing, though not all Americans will approve of his actions.

I want a president who will bring the people together without using our differences for political gain.

In a word I want a president like former South African president, Nelson Mandela, as depicted in the recent East-Holly-wood movie, Invictus.

I can’t really be certain that the former Marxist and political prisoner Mandela was anything like Morgan Freeman’s portrayal but is was an uplifting and hopeful portrayal just the same.

I was all aglow when Freeman made a direct effort to use the national rugby team, the Springboks, with only one black player, to bring his people together.

The most prejudiced principle was Mandela’s Head of Security and by the end of the film, he was hugging a white colleague after their world title victory.

As far as I could see that same spirit seemed alive and well a few weeks ago, some 15 years later when South Africa’s World Cup soccer team, Bafana, became the first home team to be ousted in the first round.

Mandela had just suffered the loss of his granddaughter in an auto accident and seemed subdued but still trying keep his nation together.

I kept thinking–wouldn’t it be great if we had a president that put the nation first–one who wished to enhance our two centuries of Exceptionalism, and help maintain its place as the envy of the world.

That’s not likely to happen under Barack Obama whom I think represents the personification of everything I do not want in a president.

Jimmy Carter can now go to his grave knowing that he no longer had to wear that ignominious worst president crown.

With our current president’s Chicago style of corruption that includes bullying, and thuggery, abetted by yellow and purple-shirts hoodlums, sweet deals, pay-offs, unilateral aggrandisement of power, any movie about Obama would more likely be called Convictus.

In talking about thuggery,  just read Tony Blankly’s column on Ken Salazar.

On CNN’s Sunday State of the Union show, Secretary of the Interior Salazar explained the Obama administration’s role in dealing with BP:

Our job basically is to keep the boot on the neck of British Petroleum to carry out the responsibilities they have both underthe law and contractually to move forward and stop this spill.

Now this tough talk happened right when BP was working feverishly to plug the leak.  Real leaders save the tough talk until AFTER the problem has been solved.   Where was our president during the aftermath of the spill?

Why does he seem to display a Hamletesque posture toward any legitimate national or regional crisis?

Or maybe it is the fact that the gulf states are mainly red states?

Salazar’s remarks were reminiscent of George Orwell’s character Winston Smith, who received this advice from O’Brien:

But always — do not forget this, Winston — always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling forever on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face — forever.

But it doesn’t require an Orwell to understand the brutalizing, sadistic nature of the image of a boot on the neck.

Salazar’s Orwellian imagery reveals the temperament of the administration — which is to publicly brutalize the company that, whether they like it or not, they are going to have to work with to mitigate the environmental harm.

This is Obama’s style or what Michelle Malkin calls Chicago thuggery.

Eliot Ness call your office!

What does this say about the president’s deep hatred of American capitalism?

It seems that these bully tactics are fitting for all businesses, especially the demon of the moment.  First it was the insurance companies.

Then it was the bankers and now all the oil companies.

The president got a promise of $20 billion from BP.  That’s just the beginning.

Smells like another Shakedown, in the image of another Chicagoan, Jesse Jackson.

This president presides over the most anti-business administration in history and he seems intent on what the WSJ called the criminalization of business.

Oliver Stone’s Gordon Gekko personified all the evil businessmen in the country.  He went to jail and it seems the intention of the Obama administration all CEO’s belong there as well.  Now he’s back!

Greed is not good but businessmen seem to lust only for the profits from consumers choices.  What about government greed? They lust for all the money in this country and seem hellbent on taxing our wealth, spending it or inflating out of existence.

What about the greed of government that seems to lust for all the money in the private sector?  Are we to believe that government greed is good?

This encouraged Obama to issue a moratorium on all off-shore drilling in this country.  Much to the delight of the radical environmentalists who applaud his hatred of big business.

On a recent show Glenn Beck revealed that while Obama was against off-shore drilling for Americans, he was all for it when there were big profits in it for one of his key benefactors–George Soros.

Obama’s relationship with Soros, is just another example of his Chicago style of business.

George Soros’ hedge-fund has invested heavily in Petrobras the main Brazilian oil company to the tune of roughly $900 million, making it one of his hedge fund’s top investments.

He is also the prime mover of the Center for American Progress, founded by John Podesta who is a chief adviser to President Obama on energy policy, including the infamous Cap and Trade.

In 2009 Obama commits $2 billion to Petrobras just days after Soros’s investment.

Now a year later Obama uses a crisis to ban Petrobras’ American competition from opening new deepwater wells.

It’s all about failure!

Right after Obama’s election in 2008, Rush Limbaugh said that he wanted Obama to fail.  He took a lot of flak for his prescient comments.

There are those who believe that the president has sat on his hands with the clean-up on the Gulf Coast because he WANTS the crisis to continue.  He wants more people to fail so they will need his solutions.

There are so many books out there that expose our president’s agenda for America.  You must start reading them.

Start with Obamanomincs by Tim Carney.  But even more informative is Aaron Klein’s The Manchurian Candidate: Barack Obama’s Ties to Communists and Other anti-American Extremists.

Everything you have heard about Obama is detailed and analysed in this text.

Klein quotes David Horowitz with regard to his 2009 pamphlet Barack Obama’s Rules for Revolution: The Alinsky Model.

Writing about the sixties’ radicals strategy of boring from within, Horowitz wrote that Alinsky and his acolytes had infiltrated the War on Poverty and siphoned off funds for themselves.

Like termites they set about to eat away at the foundations of the building in expectation that they might cause it to collapse one day.

After understanding Obama’s agenda, all Americans should hope and pray that his policies end up in the graveside of history.

I would feel better about Obama if he had been raised by a pack of wolves, rather than the influences he experienced from avowed Communist Frank Marshall Davis and Sol Alinsky.

They were his mentors and they bent the twig that became the presidential timber that is in the White House

To those who know all these facts and still think Obama is a great president, I can only assume that they want America to fail or they are too dumb or insane to know what is happening.

An American Chameleon:Obama and His Sense of Identity

April 13, 2010

I have a standard line that I use frequently to get a rise out of people.  I tell the unsuspecting friend that some one stole my identity.

After an initial reaction of shock and horror, I add: Yeah but the guy called a week later and said he was giving it back because it was too hard being me!

No matter what one may say or think about President Barack Obama, I think he can rest assured that nobody and I mean–nobody will ever steal his identity.

I mean we have been through this a lot recently.

What do we really know about the most transparent president in history, as he likes to pretend?

Here are some questions about him.  See is you can honestly answer them.

1) Where was he born? You say Hawaii? Are you certain?  Have you ever seen a birth certificate?

Of course most of us have never seen any president’s birth certificate but this president has spent over a million dollars of someone’s money trying to avoid showing his in public.

You don’t have to be a birther to wonder about his national origins, give the suspicious way he has reacted to the questions.

f there were a valid birth certificate available–the State of Hawaii has not released any to my knowledge…even under the Freedom of Information Act–it would be in every newspaper.

This would effectively end the issue.

2) Who was his father? Barack Senior, you say.

Again we have been over this territory.  II have read an article that lines up pictures of the president with his mother, Virginia, Barack Sr. and Frank Davis, a self-admitted Communist who mentored the younger Obama when he was known as Barry.

You don’t have to be an expert in identification to see the close family resemblance to Davis and on a similar note, the lack of resemblance to Barack Sr.

Of course if Comrade Davis had been his natural father then any debate about his national origins would be mute.

3) What religion is he? You say Christian.  That’s possible but how do we really know.

People are still debating the religion of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  Obama certainly studied his namesake’s religion when he lived in Indonesia and his mother had married a second Muslim man by that time.

He said in 2008 that the Reverend Jeremiah Wright had brought him to Christ yet I have never once heard him invoke the name of Christ in any speech, talk or personal interview.

If Reverend Wright brought him to Jesus, he is certainly tight-lipped about the ramifications of his “conversion.”

Several professional athletes that are born-again, refer to Jesus in virtually every interview they give and even on the field during games.  Just listen to Kurt Warner sometime.

4) What race is he? Biracial or mixed you say. He had a white mother and a black father–either Frank Davis or Barack Obama.  That seems like a 50-50 mix to me.

Well they just released his census form answers and President Obama checked the box for black.

In her column, Obama’s Census Identity for the WSJ the other day, Abigail Thernstrom makes several cogent points about just another of the president’s many identity issues.

First of all, she pointed out how officially he changed his race from  biracial which he is, to black, which he is not, on his census form.

Funny how we can know about this but we still do not know conclusively about his birth origins.

And I wonder, isn’t it illegal to falsify information on a census form–even if one has a good reason?

Well some people are above the law–like Bill Clinton for one.  I think perjury is still illegal.

Thernstrom goes on to recount his appearance on the David Letterman Show in September of 2009, where he talked about his search for his identity as an adolescent in high school.

This prompted the host to quip:  How long have you been a black man?

This may have more of an element of truth in it than the intellectually challenged host realized because it his high schools days, Obama was known as Barry and tended more toward the white side of his genetic make-up.

What neither seemed to understand or say was that Obama’s racial preference is based on the ante-civil rights assumption that even one drop of black blood made one a black person.

Thernstrom also points out that his false choice on the census was a slap at his dead mother, and the grandparents who acted as surrogate parents for much of his boyhood.

It is also strange that Obama has chosen the identity of his father who abandoned him when he was barely two years old.

Thernstrom opines that the reason he joined Reverend Wright’s Trinity Church was because it was an Afrocentric church with strong ties to the black community.

Thernstrom contrasts the president’s politicization of his race with the attitude of defamed golfer, Tiger Woods, who calls himself, because of his own mixed parentage a Cablinasian, that is a Caucasian-black-Indian-Asian.

Though I hate golf, and was very disappointed by his extra-marital behavior, I do admire Tiger’s witty approach to the dicey question of racial identity.

If only we could have gotten something similar from our president, then maybe the country would not be sending so many mixed messages.

He is very much like an American Chameleon because of his ability to try to change his identity to suit the blowing winds of political change.

Some day I expect to see him on a recreation of that old popular TV show of the 1950’s To Tell the Truth, where the original host, Bud Collyer would say:

Will the Real Barack Obama please stand up!

The Cellophane President PART I

January 8, 2010

Last year my precocious six and a half-year old granddaughter asked me whom I thought was the worst president.  I don’t really know what prompted her to ask me that question but I admire her spirit of curiosity that is fueled by her IQ of 136.

I just hope the American school system does not squelch her ability to ask the important question “Why,” which I believe to be at the root of all learning.

I told her to be truthful I thought our new president was the worst I had ever experienced.  I proceeded to give her a few basic reasons for my choice.

I think he has handled the Bush mess as badly as anyone can imagine.  His fiscal and monetary policies threaten to send us into another Depression, similar to the one his idol Franklin Roosevelt extended in 1933.  His insane Heath Care bill threatens to bankrupt the country.

Candidate Obama promised us his administration would be run on honesty and transparency.  Now as we near the end of his 1st year in office, it is clear that this has not been the case.  I have written widely on his ideas and policies for the Mindszenty Foundation.  (All my articles can be accessed at

For a while I have been trying to capture the essence of his leadership ability or lack of since he tool office last January.  It is almost as elusive as trying to assess his character.  I have called him the Hawaiian Candidate, my allusion to Richard Condon’s book and the subsequent film adaptations of The Manchurian Candidate.

As much as I like the analogy, I don’t believe it goes far enough.  Perhaps President Obama is more like a character from the Bob Fosse play, Chicago.  I saw veteran actor, Joel Gray’s perfect rendition of his song, Mr. Cellophane Man on Broadway several years ago.

While Obama is hardly an invisible man–he gets more face time than the gecko in the insurance commercials— he does approximate the lyrics of the song about being unknown by most people who encounter him.  He seems to have no essence or what John Kerry called gravitas.

Sure we know he likes basketball, is a die-hard Pale Hose fan, is married to Michelle and they have two little girls.  They called him “Barry” in high school in Hawaii.

Like Clinton and George H. W. Bush, he’s a southpaw. (It took Albert Pujos’ catcher’s balk to spare him the painful embarassment of bouncing his 59′ curve ball in the All-Star dirt last July.)

We know that he lived in Chicago where he was a community organizer then he went to Harvard Law School where he was the president of their Law Review.

Even his supporters have to admit that this is a very brief resume for a world leader.  I seriously doubt that Sarah Palin was qualified to be president but her credential greatly outweighed those of our current president.

So what do we REALLY know about him?

What religion is he?  We know he studied Islam in Indonesia where he lived with his mother and stepfather during his early years.  He did attend Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s Church in Chicago, which was ostensibly a Christian Church but since he has been president has he ever set foot in a similar church?

Stories abound that he is a closet Muslim. He is the first president who did not celebrate Christmas since people took notice of that kind of thing.  Now I read that he is pushing a 44-cent Muslim stamp. Others say that he had the Gitmo prisoners tried in a criminal court in NYC and not before a military tribunal because he did not want to send a fellow Muslim to the gallows.

Balderdash? Bunk?  Maybe–but I would really like to know what his religious beliefs are.  An honest president would tell us.  Wouldn’t he?
